We hinted about going downstairs to the basement last time. Change of plan. While it's big, there's not a lot going on there. Imagine a slightly condensed and ground floor layout without windows, and damper. We'll attack it at some point in the (far) future when it's more than the home of the boiler, electricity meter and loads of building materials.
So let's go up. We've done the 1st and ground floors, so lets jump to floor 2. Right, up the stairs and we come to a landing.
 |
| Mo stairs, mo landing. |
But wait a minute, this landing is strangely bright. What's going on?
 |
| Windows on the stairs?! |
That's right, the 2nd floor is smaller. Indeed it's only two rooms at present. The extension finishes on the 1st floor. OK, I feel your disappointment, but we still have another floor to go plus the basement. Seriously, it's enough.
Through door 1 (on the right). Welcome to the wasteland.

| Is this before? |
 |
| Or is this before? (well, tools in other one give it away) |
So our strategy is to finish the ground floor and first floor ASAP. Consequently we've asked our undertaker to do the plastering there, and we're focusing our efforts there too. The second floor upwards on the other hand has been forgotten (other than electrics and plumbing) after we stripped the wallpaper.
It shows. The walls look bad, electrical sockets still to be finalised, etc. That said, it is a less impressive room than the lower ones anyhow - there is not the same the plasterwork on the ceiling for example. However, the room is still huge, and in the long term we may consider splitting it into two.
 |
| We've already started blocking up a doorway to address the enfilade problem. |
Back through the landing to the other room.
 |
| Oh. |
 |
| Before it was like this with manky carpet. |
If you thought the other room was bad, this is
bad. The floor is a bit bouncy (meaning we'll have joist work to do), the walls a mess and the fireplace surrounded by tar. But like everything in this house, there is potential. And it will hopefully become clearer with time.
One more floor to go for now - the attic. You probably think it's straightforward. Prepare to be a bit surprised.
